The board built for serious cooking. Made to outlast you.
This is the cutting board for the cook who's done settling. Our teak end-grain butcher blocks are handcrafted from premium, sustainably sourced teak and built using traditional end-grain construction — the same construction style used in professional butcher shops and the kitchens of serious chefs.
End-grain construction means the wood fibers stand vertically, allowing your knife blade to sink between the fibers and naturally close after each cut. This self-healing surface protects your knives, minimizes visible knife marks, and creates a board that genuinely improves with daily use.
Combined with teak's natural antimicrobial properties, water resistance, and dramatic one-of-a-kind grain patterns, this is a butcher block built to perform for decades and look beautiful doing it.
Why End-Grain Construction Matters
End-grain cutting boards are the gold standard in serious kitchens for three reasons:
Self-healing surface. Knife blades slide between the wood fibers rather than cutting across them. The fibers naturally close after each cut, dramatically reducing visible knife marks and extending the life of the board.
Knife protection. Because your blade sinks into the grain rather than chopping across it, end-grain boards are significantly easier on knife edges than face-grain or edge-grain boards. Your knives stay sharper longer.
Built for heavy work. End-grain construction can handle the impact of cleavers, full-force chopping, and breaking down whole proteins. This is the construction professional butchers use because it lasts under abuse that would destroy other boards.
End-grain construction takes substantially more time and material to produce than face-grain or edge-grain. The result is a board that costs more upfront and saves you money for the rest of your life.
Limited Teak Supply
Our teak is sourced in finite batches. End-grain construction consumes more raw material per board than face-grain construction, so availability on this line is especially limited. When a batch sells out, we cannot guarantee restock at this quality level.

Size Guide — Which End-Grain Block Is Right for You?
Block (12x12x1 inch) — The compact daily workhorse. Best for small kitchens, focused prep tasks, and cooks who want true butcher block construction in a manageable size.
Standard Block (12x16x1 inch) — Most Popular — Our most versatile end-grain board. Handles daily prep, light chopping, and serves as the everyday board for serious home cooks. If you're buying one end-grain board, this is the one.
Butcher Block (16x16x1.5 inches) — A real butcher block. The 1.5-inch thickness adds the weight and stability needed for heavy chopping, breaking down whole chickens, and serious carving work.
Chef's Block (16x20x1.5 inches) — The flagship. Built for brisket, prime rib, holiday roasts, full prep sessions, and the kind of cooking that earns a permanent spot in the kitchen. This is the board professional chefs and serious entertainers reach for first.
A Note on Thickness
Our 12x12 and 12x16 sizes are crafted at 1 inch thick — substantial enough for daily prep and confident chopping. Our 16x16 and 16x20 sizes step up to 1.5 inches thick, which is the traditional butcher block thickness and provides the weight, stability, and durability needed for heavy chopping, breaking down proteins, and full carving work.
If you do serious meat preparation or want true butcher-block performance, choose the 1.5-inch sizes. If you primarily do vegetable prep and lighter daily work, the 1-inch sizes are perfect.
Best For
- Serious home cooks and professional chefs
- Daily prep, heavy chopping, and protein breakdown
- Holiday cooking, brisket, prime rib, and roasts
- Father's Day, retirement, and "chef in your life" gifts
- Wedding gifts for couples who actually cook
- Kitchens where the cutting board is a permanent fixture, not a tool you replace every few years
Care
- Hand wash with warm water and mild soap
- Dry immediately with a clean towel
- Apply a food-safe board cream or mineral oil regularly to keep the wood conditioned
- Never put your butcher block in the dishwasher
- Avoid prolonged exposure to standing water
Properly cared for, a quality teak end-grain butcher block lasts for decades — and many become family heirlooms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose an end-grain cutting board over face-grain or edge-grain? End-grain construction allows knife blades to slide between the wood fibers rather than cutting across them. This self-healing design preserves the cutting surface, reduces visible knife marks, and protects your knives over time. End-grain boards are the standard in professional butcher shops and serious kitchens for these reasons.
What's the difference between end-grain and face-grain teak? Face-grain construction (used in our Signature Teak line) shows the broad face of the wood plank and is excellent for daily prep, slicing, and serving. End-grain construction (used in this line) shows the cross-section of the wood fibers, creating a self-healing surface designed for heavier chopping and serious knife work. Both are made from premium teak. End-grain is the more durable, more premium construction.
Why are end-grain boards more expensive? End-grain construction is dramatically more labor-intensive. Each board is built from individually cut wood segments rotated 90 degrees and glued into the signature checkered pattern, then planed and finished by hand. The process takes 3 to 5 times longer than face-grain construction. The result is a board that costs more upfront and outlasts every face-grain board in your kitchen.
Are teak end-grain boards good for knives? Yes. End-grain teak is one of the most knife-friendly cutting surfaces available. The combination of teak's natural give and end-grain's self-healing fibers protects knife edges better than nearly any other cutting surface, including most plastic boards.
Is teak naturally antimicrobial? Yes. Teak contains natural oils that resist bacterial growth without chemical treatment. End-grain construction does not change this property. This makes our teak end-grain boards one of the safest cutting surfaces available for raw meat and food preparation.
How do I care for a teak end-grain butcher block? Hand wash with warm water and mild soap. Dry immediately. Apply a food-safe board cream or mineral oil regularly to keep the wood conditioned. Never put your butcher block in the dishwasher. With proper care, your board will last for decades.
Should I get the 1-inch or 1.5-inch thickness? Choose 1-inch (Block 12x12 or Standard Block 12x16) if you primarily do vegetable prep and lighter daily work. Choose 1.5-inch (Butcher Block 16x16 or Chef's Block 16x20) if you do serious meat preparation, heavy chopping, or want a true traditional butcher block.
Is this a good gift for a serious cook? A teak end-grain butcher block is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give a serious cook. Common gift occasions include Father's Day, retirement gifts, wedding gifts for couples who genuinely cook, and gifts for the home chef who has every gadget but is still using a worn-out plastic board. This is the gift they'll remember forever.
What's the difference between this and your face-grain teak boards? Our Signature Teak line (face-grain) is built for everyday cutting, slicing, and serving — beautiful and functional for the majority of kitchen work. Our Teak End-Grain Butcher Block line is built for serious chopping, heavy use, and the cooks who want the absolute best. Both are made from premium teak. End-grain is the more durable, more premium, more expensive construction. Choose based on how you actually cook.
Are these made in the USA? Yes. Every board is handcrafted in the USA from sourced premium teak, using traditional end-grain construction. Each one is hand-finished with food-grade oil and beeswax.
